One-Way Slab Design
Determine minimum thickness, required flexural reinforcement, and temperature/shrinkage steel for a one-way slab spanning between parallel supports. Checks concrete shear capacity without stirrups and verifies that the selected thickness satisfies ACI 318-19 Table 7.3.1.1 minimum thickness for deflection control. Includes distribution reinforcement requirements.
What this calculates
Minimum slab thickness (h) for deflection control per Table 7.3.1.1, required main reinforcement (As), temperature and shrinkage reinforcement (As,t&s per Section 24.4.3), concrete shear capacity (φVc), and maximum bar spacing limits per Section 7.7.2.
Inputs
Clear span of the one-way slab
Superimposed dead load (excluding self-weight)
Design live load
Specified compressive strength of concrete
Yield strength of reinforcement
Unit weight of concrete (typically 150 pcf for normal weight)
Outputs
Minimum thickness for deflection control
Maximum factored moment per unit width
Required flexural reinforcement per foot width
Temperature and shrinkage reinforcement per foot
Design concrete shear strength per foot width
Maximum permissible bar spacing
Methodology
Minimum thickness per ACI 318-19 Table 7.3.1.1 (e.g. L/20 for simply supported, L/24 for one end continuous). Flexural reinforcement using Mu = φ·As·fy·(d − a/2) per Section 22.2. Temperature and shrinkage steel: As,t&s = 0.0018·b·h for Grade 60 reinforcement per Section 24.4.3.2. Shear check: φVc = φ·2·√f'c·b·d per Section 22.5. Maximum bar spacing: min(3h, 18 in) per Section 7.7.2.3.
